THE OLDEST France's biggest organic market

France’s oldest organic market was founded in Villeneuve-sur-Lot in 1975, even before the ‘Agriculture biologique’ label was introduced.

This ambitious project was the brainchild of Paul Simonet and Jacky Lassort (supported by Claudette Pozzer), two producers who wanted to offer the people of Villeneuve a market bringing together producers who, like them, had a different vision of agriculture. Their aim was to promote organic farming in their area.

In the early days, the organic market was held every fortnight in front of a school, targeting teachers as potential customers. Given its growing success, it soon became a weekly market and moved to the site of a former factory.

Now based on the Left Bank, on the Place d’Aquitaine, this weekly market showcases organic food and craft products every Wednesday morning.
