Pujols

Pujols is an ancient Albigensian stronghold perched more than 180 metres high. It offers breathtaking views over the Lot valley to the north and the more discreet Mail valley to the south.

Attractions The church of Saint-Nicolas, built into the northern ramparts of the village, is the town’s must-see monument! The pointed gateway in the church’s bell tower is the main entrance to the citadel. Gothic in style, the church is bathed in light from the five stained glass windows arranged around the central nave.

Things to do: The Wednesday evening gourmet markets in summer are a must for gourmets and lovers of sumptuous sunsets!

Tournon d'Agenais

Tournon d’Agenais is a royal bastide founded in 1271 by Philippe III, son of King Saint Louis. As in all bastides, the economic and social heart of the village is its central square, lined with cornices.

Worth seeing: The Belfry, whose dial is always on the hour… of the Moon, is the village’s flagship monument! Surprising and original, this lunar clock is unique in Aquitaine.

Things to do: The Tourtière festival, held every 15 August, is a firm favourite with food lovers. Tourtière is a traditional cake filled with apples and flavoured with plum brandy or Armagnac. We look forward to hearing from you!

Penne d'Agenais

Penne d’Agenais is a medieval village perched 200 metres above the Lot Valley. The village owes its splendour to its narrow flower-lined streets, steep lanes and charming ancient heritage.

Attractions The church of Notre-Dame-de-Peyragude, the foundation stone of which was laid in 1887, is the village’s landmark! Its unique architecture, particularly its zinc-covered dome, makes it a must-see in the village of Penne d’Agenais.

Things to do: The village is home to a large number of art craftspeople and gallery owners who will be delighted to show you their exceptional skills. Here, you can meet glass-blowers, weavers and copperworkers…

Monflanquin

Monflanquin is a fortified town founded in 1256 by Alphonse de Poitiers, brother of Saint Louis. Like all bastide towns, village life is organised around the central square lined with arcades, not far from the elegant house of the Black Prince.

Attractions The Musée des Bastides is a must-see if you want to discover the fascinating history of the bastides of Lot-et-Garonne. The tour includes period costumes, riddles to solve and the chance to slip into the shoes of medieval craftsmen for a totally immersive experience.

What to do: The Journées Médiévales (Medieval Days), held every weekend on 15 August, are the highlight of the year. During these few days, the bastide lives to the rhythm of the Middle Ages, with troubadours, fire shows, medieval dances, archery and a grand medieval banquet!

Villeréal

Villeréal is a bastide town founded in 1265 by Alphonse de Poitiers. Nestling at the gateway to Périgord, this “royal town” is also organised according to the typical bastide layout.

Attractions include The village hall, with its 14th-century oak framework and wattle and daub storey, is the village’s must-see monument. It is the venue for many of Villeréal’s festivities and also houses the traditional Saturday morning market.

Things to do: The village has a particular expertise in horse-breeding. At the heart of this expertise is the Villeréal racecourse, one of the most popular in the South-West.
